Deep Massage: The Lauterstein Method combines a focus on the muscles, fascia, and the nervous system with insights from Zero Balancing regarding how to cultivate the highest quality of touch.

In this special 4-day workshop, David Lauterstein the founder of The Lauterstein - Conway Massage School in the U.S. and. of this particularly method will instruct you in all the techniques (aka “fulcrums”), covered in his classic, “The Deep Massage Book: How to Combine Structure and Energy in Bodywork”.

The benefits for your clients will be:

  • relief from chronic pain and tension

  • experience of greater freedom in the joints

  • more balanced and graceful movement

  • a sense of greater wholeness and peace

  • enhanced compassion for oneself and others

  • experiencing spiritual as well as physical benefits

You will learn new ways to relieve tension and pain from the:

  • calves, knees, thighs and hips

  • pelvis, including the iliopsoas

  • abdomen, affecting the vagus nerve

  • chest (opening up the heart and shoulders)

  • low, mid, and upper back

  • the rotator cuff and arm

  • neck and head (including the jaw and the suboccipital muscles)

We need to work with the whole person not only to solve problems but also to facilitate their experience of the body mind as the source of pleasure and grace.

You will learn new observation skills as well, as modelled by Ida Rolf, Feldenkrais, Trager, and Dr. Fritz Smith (Zero Balancing’s founder) to use your eyes as a kind of third hand. All these new skills will deepen your ability to help the clients let go from “inside out”, not with more pressure but with greater sensitivity, kindness, and knowledge.

In this workshop Deep Massage will be integrated with some techniques/fulcrums drawn from Zero Balancing. This will facilitate the release of tension from the skeletal side of the musculo - skeletal system. When we help the clients to let go on the level of the joints, the periosteum, and the bone itself, the therapeutic effects will be more profound and longer-lasting.

David Lauterstein has been teaching Deep Massage: The Lauterstein Method since 1984, first at the Chicago School of Massage Therapy, then at The Lauterstein - Conway Massage School in Austin, Texas and in workshops for 40 years throughout the U.S., Costa Rica and the UK. He has also been a certified teacher of Zero Balancing since 1996.

He is the author of five books including: Putting the Soul Back in the Body, The Deep Massage Book, Life in the Bones and The Memory Palace of Bones (co-authored with Dr. Jeff Rockwell). He is known as perhaps the foremost proponent for the integration of the art and science in bodywork, with a prior degree in music composition (see YouTube for his recording of “Roots and Branches”).

This year marks his 10th anniversary of teaching at the Bristol College of Massage and Bodywork.
