Massage for people with Cancer with Andy Fagg
Many sources claim that massage is contra-indicated for cancer. Yet quality touch is often the very experience
that people with cancer are crying out for. Massage can help reclaim the battered body, restore dignity and
heal physical and emotional wounds. Often the reservations about massage and cancer are based on fear and
ignorance both of what cancer is and the effects on the body of orthodox and massage treatments. This
workshop considers how we may gain permission to touch by examining:
-
What cancer is and how we feel about it;
-
The concerns and benefits around massage and cancer;
-
Clear boundaries and the energetics of touch;
-
Specific techniques, including holding and breathing, scar massage and simple lymphatic massage.
-
Strategies for different stages of the cancer journey
This workshop includes hands-on massage practice, group work, role play and information sharing.
